Chateau de Tocqueville

Tocqueville inherited the family chateau after his mother's death in 1836. He had never been fond of spending time in the country, but he warmed to the idea after the weathered chatueau underwent extensive renovations. Tocqueville particularly liked having his own library to which he could retreat and work on the second part of Democracy in America. Click on any photo to learn more about the chateau.
